Your Marrakech to Fes desert tour begins with an early pick-up from your accommodation or the Marrakech airport. First, drive through the fascinating High Atlas Mountains, passing through the Tizi N’Tichka Pass with panoramic views of traditional Berber villages and rugged landscapes. We will make several stops for photos and exploration along the way.
Next, we continue to Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its traditional adobe architecture. Famous for its appearances in Hollywood films like Gladiator and TV series such as Game of Thrones, this Kasbah is a must-see landmark in Morocco. After exploring the Kasbah, we head to Ouarzazate, the “Gate of the Desert,” where we will visit Atlas Studios and Taourirt Kasbah. Later, we drive through the scenic Rose Valley, known for its fragrant rose fields and annual Rose Festival, before heading to Boumalne Dades for dinner and an overnight stay.
On the second day of your 4-day desert tour from Marrakech, we drive through the Dades Valley, stopping at a stunning viewpoint overlooking the Dades Gorges. These rock formations create dramatic landscapes that are perfect for photography. After this, we continue to Todra Gorges, an impressive canyon carved by the Todra River, creating steep, red cliffs ideal for exploring and hiking.
We then head towards Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. After arriving, we switch to camels and embark on an unforgettable journey into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. As we ride through the desert, we will stop on top of a dune to witness the breathtaking Sahara sunset. Continuing to the luxury desert camp, you’ll enjoy dinner, Berber music, and dancing around the campfire under the vast desert sky. Afterward, you’ll spend the night in your private tent under the stars.
Wake up early to catch the Sahara sunrise, one of the most incredible sights in the world. After a delicious Moroccan breakfast, we ride the camels back to Merzouga. Then, the day is dedicated to exploring the fascinating Merzouga region.
We begin with an off-road drive to visit an ancient eyeliner mine and then visit Berber nomads in their traditional woven tents, where you can enjoy Berber tea and learn about their way of life. Next, we head to Khamlia, a village known for its Gnaoua music—a blend of African and Berber influences. After enjoying the musical performance, we continue to the Merzouga Lake, also known as Flamingos Lake, where migratory birds can often be seen. Later, we take a leisurely walk through a palm grove before returning to Merzouga for a delicious dinner and overnight stay.
On the final day, we leave the desert early to witness another Sahara sunrise. After breakfast, we begin our journey back to Fes. We stop in Rissani, the ancient capital of the Tafilalet region, known for its bustling souks and historical significance. Then, we continue to Erfoud, famous for its fossilized marble, where we can visit one of the local workshops.
Next, we drive along the Ziz River, stopping for a panoramic view of the Ziz Valley. We take a break for lunch in Midelt, located in the Middle Atlas. After lunch, we continue our journey through the Cedars Forest, home to the Barbary macaques. You’ll have the opportunity to interact with these friendly monkeys before heading to Ifrane, a charming town often referred to as the “Switzerland of Morocco” due to its alpine-style architecture. Finally, we arrive in Fes, where we drop you off at your accommodation or Fes airport, marking the end of your incredible 4-day Sahara Desert tour.
